Commercial, Industrial, and Institutional Energy Consumers
Demand response programs compensate large energy consumers for responding to a high demand of electricity. Participants respond by reducing their electricity consumption during peak usage times, like during hot summer days. High demand puts pressure on the electricity grid, and outages can occur when demand exceeds supply. Demand response helps to stabilize this delicate balance, and also minimizes the need to activate backup fossil fuel generators that pollute the environment. Facilities are paid to power down nonessential equipment or shift their load to an onsite generator, and they can also be paid to be on standby.
Rodan Energy enables a diverse range of commercial, industrial, and institutional energy consumers to participate in demand response programs. These include: manufacturing plants, data centers, retail stores, distribution centers, commercial buildings, and municipal water treatment plants and pumping stations.
Demand response can be easily implemented without having an impact on production processes.
Residential and Small Commercial Energy Consumers
Demand response programs are also available for residential and small commercial energy consumers. Through the Ontario government’s peaksaver PLUS program, residents and small business owners can sign up to save on their energy bill with a free programmable thermostat. During peak demand times, a signal will be sent to an appliance – such as an air conditioner or pool pump – to reduce its electricity demand. This helps maintain the reliability and balance of the grid, and also allows property owners to save money.
Rodan Energy is the Dispatch Administrator for the peaksaver PLUS program. We also control and operate several hundred thousand homes and small businesses as an Aggregation Operator in cooperation with over 50 utilities, ISOs and power authorities in Ontario.
