To fuel our expansion and drive market success, we have an exciting opportunity available for a Director, Legal and Stakeholder Relations.

Job Information:

Reporting to the President & CEO, you will be responsible for Rodan’s legal and advocacy requirements. You will be a skilled corporate lawyer with strong skills in advocacy and stakeholder relations that wants to be a part of the leadership team of a growing and innovative energy business.

 

Rodan fosters a culture that promotes health and wellness and encourages work-life balance.  This is a flexible hybrid role where you are required to work both remotely and in person depending on business needs.  You will be required to work at our Corporate HQ in Mississauga a minimum of 2 days per week to attend and participate in workshops, projects, or team meetings.

 

Main Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Lead all legal matters and stakeholder advocacy for the company in both Canada and the US
  • Possess an entrepreneurial business-minded approach and take initiative to identify strategic opportunities for the business
  • Draft, negotiate, review, and interpret complex commercial agreements and RFPs
  • Oversee corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, joint venture structuring and other transactions
  • Support the human resources team on employment law and policies; health and safety; and benefits
  • Risk management and compliance in all the markets we operate including working with energy regulators, agencies, system operators and utilities
  • Provide accurate, efficient, and timely support to business stakeholders and colleagues in all functional areas of the business
  • Advise on legal compliance and risk management, including insurance
  • Engage and oversee external counsel as required

Due to the growth of Rodan, you must be willing to turn your hand to other tasks depending on business needs.

Qualifications:

  • Either a J.D. or LL.B. degree from a top tier Canadian or American university and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • Minimum of 5 years’ legal experience in a corporate/commercial/in-house environment
  • Knowledge of the electricity markets, power development and software technology sectors is an asset
  • Sound legal and business judgement to make effective decisions and problem solve
  • Positive, professional team player who is a self-starter and can work independently, reliably, and efficiently
  • Well organized, detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and conflicting deadlines under pressure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated advocacy skills to lead policy development discussions with government, agencies and industry associations
  • Willingness to continually learn
