The province of Ontario is specifically at risk of outrages, and consequently supply shortages, should temperatures spike. This risk creates a challenge for the IESO to meet the demand for electricity.
Reducing energy use when these extreme conditions occur can provide Energy Managers with the opportunity to earn a significant amount of revenue from the IESO in return for helping to stabilize the grid.
