MISSISSAUGA, Ontario – April 16, 2021 “We congratulate Minister Sarkaria and Minister Walker for launching this important initiative that has been stuck in pilot mode for almost a decade. The Green Button initiative will help consumers save money on electricity by making it easier for them to track their energy use,” stated Rodan Energy President Paul Grod. “I also congratulate the Energy Transformation Network of Ontario, its Chair David McFadden, and the IESO leadership for developing a solid framework for its implementation.”
The Green Button is a smart and easy way to access meter data. It is a standardized communication medium that provides the ability to share data with innovative applications, products, and services that help households and businesses conserve energy and better manage their electricity bills.
Rodan Energy has been a Green Button pioneer in Ontario and was a participant in the initial 2013-16 pilot with Ontario utilities London Hydro and Hydro One, in both the residential and commercial sectors. Rodan created energy models and provided high-value energy analytics based on Green Button data connectivity standards, Download MyData (DMD), and Connect My Data (CMD).
“We welcome the opportunity to share our expertise and technology platform with utilities and commercial providers to unlock the full potential of Green Button,” said Grod. “There is great potential for positive impacts to consumers associated with deeper, more structural transformations of the energy sector that will be greatly enhanced as access to data becomes unlocked.”
Easy access to authorized third parties of customer energy data for all utility customer classes will be critical to ensure Green Button is a success. Unlocking access to customer-authorized data will drive innovation and efficiency in the energy sector.
